Asiah Collins is more than the wife of superstar, Kid Ink. She is a mother, professional chef, model and businesswoman. With goals to grow her culinary brand and to continue to be an advocate for women empowerment, Asiah is leaving her mark as a mom on the move. CEOMOM chatted with Asiah to learn more about her role as a businesswoman and her plans as a new chef.
Tell us a little about yourself. Who is Asiah Collins?
I am mom, a wife, a superwoman and now I am a chef. I am getting into my culinary profession. I am also an all around supporter of women and a pretty good friend.
Congratulations on your recent graduation from culinary school. What culinary projects do you have in the works?
I am working on branding myself as a professional chef. I am putting together some pop-ups to introduce myself in the culinary industry. We have also been working on some TV projects. I am just doing everything I can before I open my own restaurant. Coming from an entertainment background, I want to be taken seriously as a culinary professional. I am taking on as many projects as possible to get my feet wet.
What inspired you to become a chef?
I have always loved to cook and my husband does as well. When we first started dating we said we would open a restaurant one day. When I had my daughter and had to make moves toward a career, I decided to buckle down and get serious about culinary school.
What would you say is your specialty and what are some of your favorite dishes to cook?
I am half Iranian and am coming more in touch with my Persian culture. I have been doing a lot of Persian cuisine and adding my own modern twist to it.
We saw on the E! TV show, Platinum Life, what it’s like to be married to a successful recording artist. How do you balance being a wife and mom in the spotlight?
Kid Ink and I have been together since before his career took off. There were a lot of moments when we had to learn and adapt to the new lifestyle. We have been married a year, and it’s kind of a thing for me now. It’s pretty much what we have been doing for the past 8 years. Having a daughter changed it a little bit. I can’t be the rockstar traveling on tour all of the time now. When I am on tour and Aislin is with us, it changes the dynamic, but we have fun. We make it work.
Tell us about your role with Kid Ink Tour merchandising and the Alumni Clothing Line. How involved are you in the operations of each of these lines?
I help with the designs of the new collections before we launch them. We are trying to expand the clothing lines and get them past being basic streetwear and move them into a bigger collection. When I am on tour, I am in charge of inventory, staging and setup and accounting. I am the boss lady on the road right before the tour. I make sure everything is setup and ready to go.
You’re a model, chef, businesswoman, wife and mom. What’s next for the Asiah Collins brand?
Hopefully just taking it to the next level, definitely doing as much as I can in the culinary industry. I want to open a restaurant starting in Los Angeles and branch off as much as I can to other markets.
