Patrice M. Williams on Event Planning, Entrepreneurship and Legacy

For Patrice M. Williams, creating unforgettable experiences goes beyond beautiful décor, thoughtful details, and perfectly executed events. Her priority: how people feel and what they remember long after the moment has passed.

As the founder of Dot The I’s Events, Patrice has built a career around turning life’s moments into lasting memories. She brings that same intention to entrepreneurship, leadership, and the multiple roles she carries as a wife, mother, and business owner. At the center of it all is a commitment to people, relationships, and creating experiences that become part of their stories.

CEOMOM spoke with Patrice about building a business with purpose, knowing when an opportunity deserves a “yes,” the must-haves that keep her grounded as an entrepreneur, and why she believes the best events aren’t simply planned. They’re remembered.

You have built a career helping people create meaningful moments. What made you realize event planning was not just something you were good at, but something you were called to build?

I often say I am not just an event planner. I am a Memory Architect.

Long before Dot The I’s Event Management, aka Dot The I’s Events, existed, I was creating experiences that brought people together. I was the person organizing family celebrations, coordinating details, and making sure everyone felt welcome and valued. Professionally, I spent years as a healthcare executive managing multiple physician practices, where I learned that leadership is ultimately about people. Patients rarely remember every process or policy, but they always remember how they were treated.

That lesson stayed with me.

As I began planning events, I realized I was doing the same thing through a different lens. Every celebration, every milestone, every carefully planned detail was an opportunity to create a lasting memory for someone else.

Today, whether I am producing an elegant wedding, a corporate experience, or a celebration of life, my purpose remains the same. Beautiful décor captures attention, but meaningful experiences capture hearts. That is when I realized I was not simply planning events; I was building memories that families and organizations would treasure for generations.

As a wife, mother, and entrepreneur, how have you learned to leverage your roles instead of letting them compete with one another?

I have learned that my roles do not compete. They complement one another.

Being a wife has taught me partnership. Motherhood has taught me patience, flexibility, and unconditional love. Entrepreneurship has taught me resilience, vision, and the confidence to make difficult decisions.

Those experiences influence every business I lead.

Through Dot The I’s Events, I help families and organizations celebrate life’s most meaningful milestones. Through Bee’s Things Resale, I help women discover beautiful luxury pieces that become part of their own stories. Through Somewhere Together, I am creating opportunities for mothers and daughters to strengthen their relationships through unforgettable travel experiences.

When I look at my businesses collectively, they all serve one mission: helping people create memories that become part of their legacy.

For the woman who wants to start her own event planning company, what are the first three steps she should take before booking her first client?

First, master the business before the design. Learn contracts, budgets, logistics, timelines, vendor management, and client communication. Beautiful events are built on strong systems.

Second, become known for something. Do not try to serve everyone. Build a brand with a clear identity and a client experience that people cannot stop talking about.

Third, build relationships before you need them. This industry is built on trust. Your reputation among venues, vendors, and clients will become your greatest marketing tool.

I always remind new planners that your first client should receive the same level of excellence you hope to deliver to your hundredth.

What is one lesson business ownership has taught you that changed the way you lead, make decisions, or show up as CEO?

Business ownership taught me that every opportunity deserves consideration, but not every opportunity deserves a yes.

Earlier in my career, I believed success meant saying yes to everything. Today, I understand that real leadership requires discernment.

Every decision I make is measured against one question: Does this align with our values and elevate the experience we promise our clients?

As CEO, protecting the brand is just as important as growing it.

What are your three must-haves as an entrepreneur, and why are they essential to your success?

The first is faith. It keeps me grounded and reminds me that every challenge has a purpose.

The second is systems. Creativity may attract clients, but systems create consistency, and consistency builds trust.

The third is relationships. Every meaningful opportunity in my career has come through genuine connections with clients, mentors, partners, or fellow entrepreneurs.

If I had to add a fourth, it would be curiosity. I believe great leaders never stop learning, evolving, or finding new ways to serve people.

When people experience a Dot The I’s event, what do you hope they feel long after the event is over?

I hope they remember how they felt.

Yes, I want them to remember the beautiful flowers, the thoughtful design, and every carefully curated detail. But more importantly, I want them to remember the joy, the laughter, the tears, the connection, and the feeling of being genuinely cared for.

At Dot The I’s Events, we believe luxury is not defined by how much something costs. Luxury is how an experience makes people feel.

If years later someone says, “That was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life,” then we have done exactly what we set out to do.

Because at the end of the day, we are not simply creating events. We are designing memories that become part of someone’s story.
